This is an example of how to work with new layers and the quick selection tool. What you do is select the area you want to delete on the background layer with the quick selection tool (after you've created a new layer UNDER the background layer) and then press 'backspace' to delete them. Then you open a pattern or use the paintbrush tool on the new layer, so that they appear in the deleted areas of the image you started with, otherwise you could also copy the desired "print" into the blank space of your choice.
